Grounded in science

We believe in research. Energy management is complex, and good energy management relies on understanding things that span a spectrum from physics to psychology and everything in between.

We are working with Government organisations like the highly respected Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) where we have been chosen to run a field trial of microgeneration in real homes looking at different technologies and how you can control them.  From this research we can retrieve quantifiable data on how the latest energy products work in home.

We’ve formed relationships with some of the best academic research teams in universities such as University College London (UCL). With UCL we have developed sophisticated simulated environments, representing different types of homes and varying conditions such as set points, occupancy and external temperature. This enables us to test and validate our products under a rich set of conditions.

We are also partnering with Loughborough, Bristol, Sussex, and Portsmouth Universities on other projects and research. We’re already capturing their insights in our services, and feeding back the things we learn from our customers to improve their research. It’s a win-win combination.

Open source

We’re building our software around open source components. This lets us work as part of a global community, delivering our own special functions on top of the highest quality general-purpose platform. ZigBee wireless network has been specifically designed for the home which is why it is currently the technology of choice in the smart meter world. It is a self-healing and self-configuring, securely encrypted network.

Open standards

Energy management is a big problem, and there are a lot of clever products out there. We believe in embracing those products, adapting them where necessary, and letting them work with our system. This not only lets us use the best of what’s available in different technologies, and lets us respond fastest to new requirements as they appear but crucially it protects the consumer because they can invest in PassivSystems knowing that it will never date. We have future-proofed.
