Advanced Heating Control

PassivEnergy™ does all the things you’d expect a modern heating controller to do – and a lot more besides. Optimum start turns on your heating only when you need it, and learns when to turn it up and down. Temperature smoothing carefully manages temperatures so your house doesn’t get too warm or too cold, while weather compensation allows it to adjust itself based on outside temperature.

If your central heating system currently has no heating controls, installing our Advanced Heating Controls could save you up to 18% on your heating bill. Even if you have conventional heating controls (a thermostat and ordinary timer or programmer), PassivEnergy™ could still save a significant amount and make your home more comfortable.

Why heat more than you use?

Unless you have a combi-boiler, your hot water system probably heats water before you need it, and stores it in a large tank or cylinder, usually in your airing cupboard. You may have a timer or programmer that lets you tell your system when to heat the water. Perhaps, like many people, you have it set to come on for an hour in the morning, and again for a while in the evening.

This should mean lots of hot water when you need it, and no waste. But in practice, it can often mean that you run out of hot water, and have to wait to have a bath. At other times, it means that you’re heating water you don’t need.

Our Advanced Hot Water Control works differently. If you have a well-insulated tank, our system will choose the best time to heat your water based on boiler efficiency and cost savings (often when you are heating your home too). If your cylinder is less well insulated, our system monitors your tank using sensors and learns when you use hot water and how much you need. Then, the system works out when to heat hot water in time for when you use it, significantly reducing the energy waste that comes from heat loss when unused hot water cools.

And, if you go away on holiday, you can let PassivEnergy™ know in advance. As well as all the other energy saving features this will trigger, Advanced Hot Water Control will stop heating your hot water when you are away. It will also make sure there is a full tank for when you get back. How’s that for a welcome home?
