Our Story.
PassivSystems was established in 2008 to develop leading-edge smart-home technology for the mass market. With a team of successful entrepreneurs, technologists, designers, marketing experts and others from the communications and energy industries, we aim to establish a profitable enterprise delivering effective solutions to some of today's most pressing global problems.
Starting with energy, and continuing with security, assisted-living and other lifestyle services, we're creating simple, human-centred products that help people live better, save money, and look after each other.
We’ve also been building rich partnerships with others. We're working with world-class manufacturers to integrate our offerings. We’re working with energy companies to meet their legal and strategic goals today and exploring new futures and business models for tomorrow. And for distributors and installers of domestic systems, we offer a new and attractive line of business.
Colin Calder - CEO
Colin has been in the computing industry for 30 years, 20 of which have been spent in the convergence of voice and data. He has participated in many industry forums and during his time as a Director of X/Open he advised the European Commission and UK Parliamentary Affairs Committee on proposed changes to European software legislation. He has provided strategic advice on wireless data to satellite and mobile phone operators and was instrumental in forming an alliance between Microsoft and several of the world’s leading wireless companies. In 1996 he started his own company developing software for the mobile phone industry. After 3 frenetic years in which he grew the company to 63 employees with offices in Europe and USA he sold the company in March 2000 to phone. com (now called Openwave). In September 2008 after 15 months of extensive research (and 8 years of pursuing personal interests which included the designing of his own Passiv home) Colin set up PassivSystems.

Our clients include leading utility companies, research organisations, manufacturers and universities. Our research joins the dots between what is technically possible in homes and how human behaviour affects solutions.
